You don't have to be in New York City to see tonight's concert celebrating the birth of hip hop.
Hip Hop 50 Live at Yankee Stadium, an event with hip hop royalty including Run-D.M.C., Melle Mel, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Kurtis Blow, Common, Lil Kim, and the Sugarhill Gang, begins at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT. You can watch the concert on the Mass Appeal YouTube channel where it's streaming exclusively.
The Bronx is considered the birthplace of hip hop, and Aug. 11, 1973, the birthdate. At his sister's birthday party, DJ Kool Herc (Clive Campbell) used two turntables to create ongoing loops of music, especially the "break beats," which excited dancers, he shared with History.com. DJ Cool Herc and his sister Cindy Campbell are scheduled to be part of the event.
Also scheduled to participate: Nas, Wiz Khalifa, T.I., Cam'Ron, EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco and Slick Rick.
